Inscription prenestina to Fortuna Primigenia (CIL 12 60) The proposed inscription is usually referred to the III century and it is engraved on a bronze tablet, that had to be affixed. It was presented in Paris in 1882. Today it is preserved in the Petit Musée. In the text a mother expresses her thanks to the Fortuna Primigenia for her child’s birth. The dedication fits in with the cult to Fortune mother goddess recalled by Cicero, but with characteristics that draw it away from such tradition. We’ll here take into exam the epithets “daughter of Jupiter†and “primitive†referred to Fortune, as well as the characters that distinguish the latinisch of Praeneste from the lateinische in Rome.
